Living With The End In Mind

I have a great desire. . .

. . . To relax with my children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren at the end of my journey on earth and say to them like Apostle Paul said to his son Timothy, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful”. (2 Timothy 4:7)

I have heard stories of people who grow old only to regret not having done certain things they would have loved to do much earlier during their lives.

There is nothing as fulfilling in life as running YOUR race like you should and getting to the finish line without doubt in your heart that you have indeed put in your best and there is nothing more you could have done if you had extra time allotted to you.

This is the way to go guys.

Live each day purposefully and with the intention of ensuring you properly fit in place the day’s piece of your life’s puzzle.

Live each day with the end in view.
Stop procrastinating acting on your visions.

Here’s yet another call to you reading this post if you believe you should write a book. . .

Enrol for my writing course and let me walk you through the process of pouring yourself into books that will most likely outlive you and move you one step closer to finishing your race in life with the prize in hand.

The timing is totally flexible and it’s an online course so your location is not an excuse.

Increase Your Capacity

The other day, I heard the Holy Spirit minister to my Spirit these words: “Many people pray that God should bless them when they are not ready to take the blessing”

Let me expand this to you:

If blessings or increase happen to an unprepared person, he will definitely fumble because he has not the ability to properly utilize the blessings or manage the increase.

…Some people mess up with their marriages because they are not mature enough for that level of responsibility nor have they developed their ability to relate properly with people around them.

…Some people get hold of power and/or money and practically become terrorists because they are not fit to manage them properly.

… Opportunity for uplifting comes to others and they cannot be considered for them because they are not fully equipped professionally.

When the widow of the prophet in the fourth chapter of the book of second kings ran to Elisha about how she was in debt and the creditor was threatening to take her sons from her, he asked her to go borrow vessels.

She had to prepare the container first. Not until she had done that did the blessing in form of the oil begin to flow.

Even Jabez prayed that God should enlarge his coasts.

This is what I want you to get from this:

You need to build your capacity for the blessing you so desire. In other words, prepare yourself for the height you look forward to; groom yourself for success.

“Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes” (Isaiah 54:2 KJV)

The New Living Translation puts that same verse this way:

“Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense!” (Isaiah 54:2)

When it comes to building your capacity, you must be ready to go to the farthest length and make the greatest form of investment possible.

How can you increase the capacity of your vessel?

Do things that will make you grow in all ramifications.

Here are some examples :

… Eat the Word of God like no man’s business.
… Dedicate time to fellowship with God like never before.
… Read books that will grow your understanding and prepare you for what’s coming in the future.
… Develop strength of character.
… Improve your emotional intelligence.
… Go back to school and get better educated.

… Borrow like that widow if you have to.

Just make sure that you enlarge your vessel. Look inwards and discover in what aspects you need to build your capacity.

“Study to show yourself APPROVED unto God” says Paul to Timothy.

Timothy was admonished to invest in himself so that he could become fit for the height that was prepared for him.

In the case of the widow that I began this post with, the oil ran out immediately there were no more containers.

Some people don’t get their blessings because they don’t have the capacity to hold it in while those who get those ‘blessings’ without being fully able to take them on are those that mess it all up.

I pray that God will grant you deep understanding of these words in Jesus’ name!

Dare Your Fears

Today, I want to share with you two major experiences I have had with FEAR. . .

I had this terrible fear/hatred for dogs that lasted so many years. It all began when I was a young girl. I had lived with a dog owner who treated us (human beings in the house) badly because of his dogs. For instance, he would buy milk for the dog while we didn’t get any to drink. We slept on empty stomachs sometimes when he got angry that we hadn’t fed the dog or given it enough food; because he had thrown our dinner away. It was really awful.

My hatred for that particular dog gradually grew into deep fear for dogs generally.

I literally began to shake when I saw dogs especially if they were not the local Nigerian breed of dogs.

I was really praying that I wouldn’t marry a man who loves dogs. But hey, my wish was not granted.

When I discovered that my husband loves dogs I changed gear for my prayers. I began to pray that he would not think of getting a dog despite his love for them.

I had thought that my prayers were being answered until there was an attempt by burglars to break into our house and boom, my husband decided it was time to get a dog. I hated the idea but I had to let go under the condition that the care of the dog was his sole responsibility.

We were both good with the arrangement until one day…

My husband had travelled and I was wondering how I would handle the dog. We had someone who helped with the dog whenever my husband wasn’t at home but wasn’t going to be available the next day. This person came in the evening to feed the dog and let it out of the cage and the plan was to wait for this person to return late morning to lead it back into it’s cage. This meant that we were going to be stuck in the house until then. However, I woke up the next morning to observe my quiet time. Immediately afterwards, I just told myself, “I can do this. I can lead that dog back in”

Immediately I stepped out through the door, with a rod in hand and it’s food in the other, I saw the dog run away. I was wondering where it had gone. I walked towards the cage and peeped from a distance to see where it was (for fear of it not attacking me from the back) only for me to see it already standing in its cage.

I hadn’t said a word of command to it before it took dressing. Lol

That incidence proved to me that fear is indeed an illusion.

I had a similar experience with driving. I had an accident when I first begun driving several years ago which completely crippled my confidence to drive a car. I refused to drive for so many years.

It was so bad that I would scream at my husband if he drove too fast to let me alight from the car so that he could go and jam the car all by himself. (I am laughing at myself right now)

I would fight my husband whenever he tried to motivate me to try driving again. He tried petting me but it didn’t work. He tried the path of tough love but that didn’t work either. I said he wasn’t patient enough with me.

The truth however is that it was totally my fault that I couldn’t drive.
The culprit was my mind. It was all in my mind that I was going to have an accident if I tried to drive.

It was when we had access to a second car that it occurred to me that my inability to drive was an issue.

I had to wait for my husband to take me wherever I had to go but could not take a bike to. I was a regular bike rider while a car was parked at home. Why? I just couldn’t summon courage to drive

You see, I have killed snakes before. I am a naturally rugged person that dares all sorts. I can face anything and take on any challenge but these two, were big issues for me. My friends called me fearless (well now I believe I FULLY am). Many of them ask me if there was anything I couldn’t do. Let me not bore you with the list of things I have tried in this life.

My decision to break the jinx was spontaneous. I just woke up one day and started driving again. I was always chanting the thirteenth verse of the fourth chapter of the book of Philippians (I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me) when I first set out to dare my fears. And God has been faithful to His Words.

I have so many stories to tell about me being faced with fear. It’s just that I found it more difficult to conquer these two.

Fear respects no one, I tell you.

It will raise its ugly head anytime you try to embark on any path that leads to greatness.

Face your fears squarely.

Stop allowing fear cripple your visions.

Let your fear become afraid of you.

…It’s either you scare your fears or your fears scare you from achieving greatness.

It’s really left to you to decide who or what wins.

Forget about the negative ‘what ifs’ and charge forward towards greatness not minding the scary thoughts.

Great people do not settle for the easy way out. Fear makes you cower and run from taking risks.

Pursue your dreams…

Live your life fully…

Receive strength to forge ahead without fear!

Venturing Into Dark Places

On a certain day just a short while ago, I had to move from a lit room to a dark room within the house. I had to walk down the dark hall to switch on the light bulb. Immediately I got into the dark room, I couldn’t see anything. However, as I walked farther into the darkness, I noticed that I began to see things in my way.

My experience was instructive because I could hear the Lord speaking to my spirit and I am sure someone needs to see this too.

Do you know that human beings have very good ability to adapt to situations especially with continuous exposure?

When you step out of your natural habitat, the initial reaction is that of discomfort. However, if you force yourself to stay there, you come up with a strategy to adapt.

As a child of God, when you try a certain sinful act the first time, you feel really terrible about your actions because your conscience is still really sensitive. The truth however is that the further you try to silence the voice of your conscience by indulging your flesh, the more silent it becomes. As time goes on, you literally find yourself being able to see well in darkness; you get accustomed to the ways of darkness without any remorse.

Your refusal to jerk backwards upon entering the wrong territory marks your doom.

A little compromise of “it doesn’t matter” here and there and you are finished. You see why backslide doesn’t get started and completed in a day? You have to take consistent backward strides towards that deadly point.

This is a call for you to make a U-turn from that dark road of lying, gossip, fornication, adultery, fraudulent activities, theft, drunkenness, unfaithfulness, etc; before it is too late.

You know I could have taken a lamp into that dark room right?

I am aware of the fact that we live in a dark world. Therefore, you can only be saved from being lost in that darkness if you make sure to carry your light with you wherever you go. “Ye are the light of the world”, says The Lord.

Never leave your light behind because you don’t want to be called names or termed fanatical. Darkness can never override light; darkness must just give way at the sight of light.

Never let your guard down.

Shine brightly.

Let the lights come on!

More Than A Dreamer

I have heard it said on many occasions that the wealthiest place on earth must be the graveyard. I am opined that that postulation must be correct. I agree that the cemetery must be full of so many dreams, visions and aspirations that never saw the light of day and got buried with the dreamers.

I have spoken with many people with very big dreams who have remained at the dreaming phase till today.

It is not enough to dream about greatness.

You must take action towards living a fulfilled life.

You are responsible for how your life turns out.

You are responsible for whether your dreams remain so or turn to realities.

Fulfilment can only be found in the place of action. Only action takers rule their world.

Your dreams can only give you a temporary sense of satisfaction. Once you wake from dreamland and realize that it is yet another dream, the hollow remains on your inside.

I charge you to dream big.

Much more so, work big.

Be more than a dreamer; choose to be a doer.

Remember, faith without works is dead.

Is it one of your dreams to become an author?

I really want to help you turn that dream to a reality so I am inviting you to join a writing course / boot camp that I have designed which will help you move from being a dream author to an author in just a short while with your determination at play.

It’s an online course so your location is not an excuse.

He’s Working. . .

I was watching a certain episode of RESCUE BOTS with the children few days ago and there was a certain scene where the lava from a volcano was flowing towards the control room. At that moment, the youngest member of the team was right inside that room and never knew there was imminent danger. They tried all they could to keep him informed but he was offline. The boy was busy doing some other stuff.

The robots and the rest of the team did all they could to make sure the young chap was safe. He never knew how much work they put in to ensure his safety until they drove into the control room and informed him about what had happened.

As that episode of the cartoon ended, my spirit was ministered to.

I felt reassured of God’s love right at that moment.

God fights so many battles for us; many of which we are not aware of.

He is even busy working things out for us that we didn’t even think we needed.

He is always watching out for His own. The Almighty God loves you so much.

My friend, you can rest assured that God is an amazing Father. He cares for you more than you could ever care for yourself.

Let your heart be at peace.

God is working even now; when it feels like He has forgotten you.

He will never forget you…

You are always on His mind.

Shalom!

Book Excerpts : The Beautiful Branch

You see, no one is left empty. No one has an excuse not to be relevant. We are the servants of the Most High God and He has given each one of us talents to trade with. There is no reason not to be productive because you have been given seeds with which to do whatever you want. It is then your choice whether you would plant the seeds for a greater harvest, or eat the seeds and be left with nothing.

Investing your talents will lead to an exponential increase. Imagine if you were given five seeds of maize. You can decide to pop it and eat (and you can’t even be satisfied) or you can decide to plant the seeds. Imagine the ripple effect that investment will bring about. You will not get the same number of seeds that you planted in the first instance. You will get the seeds back in multiple folds.

It is a foolish person that eats his seeds.

Like it was portrayed in the parable of the talents, I will infer that it is a more foolish person that hides his seed away.

He wouldn’t plant it neither will he eat it. So, of what use exactly is the seed that he is keeping away. Is it supposed to be an ornament for decoration?

There is a great probability that the seeds you hide away for a long time will lose its viability neither would it be good for food because it becomes stale. That way, you will be running at a loss. Maybe it would have been okay that you just ate the seed. Wisdom is profitable to direct. Utilizing the talents that God has given you is wisdom. Hiding the talents God has given you is foolishness.

This is a wake-up call for everyone who has been allowing her talents to lie dormant. Wake up from your slumber. Life is too short to keep procrastinating the use of your talents.

We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. (John 9:4)

Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom (Ecclesiastes 9:10)

It is high time you dug those talents from wherever you have kept them. It is time to get to work. It is time to make profit with the resources you have been given.

Instead of wasting your time coveting the talents given to another, you better begin trading with your own talents.

Instead of complaining, channel your energy into sowing the seeds you have been given. You might have been called to support the number one man or leading lady. You may have been called into an “Aaronic ministry”. Don’t let anyone devalue you because you are not leading the pack. A well-served man or woman is renewed and strengthened by your service. You are as important as the number one fellow. You are important in God’s eyes (and to Him) irrespective of the assignment you are given- leading or following.

Like the master of the servants in the parable of the talents did not inform them about when he would return to take account of what the servants had been given, our Master will appear like a thief in the night. He is coming back very soon.

“Occupy till I come” is the instruction of our Lord to us. He will require you to give account of all He gave you.

How far have you gone?

How much have you gained?

Is your Master going to be proud of you or be disappointed in you when he returns?

YOU’VE GOT YOUR SPACE

I remember a discussion I once had with someone after I had ended a chat with someone else. This person cautioned me about giving out valuable information like I had just done to the other person. She said I had to be careful about how I just pour out all of me without holding anything back into others. This person told me how I had to be wary of competition or betrayal.

I gladly told her that I would not be fulfilling my purpose if I decided to hide what people needed to become their best and was in my custody; because I have been fashioned to be a helper. Besides, I am ME and no one else can be ME no matter what.

My idea of life is that whatever you have been given must be regarded as a privileged treasure. Why then hoard it when it could have been the other person that could have been in the privileged position anyway?

We are comforted so that we can comfort others.

What gifts have you been given by your Maker? What treasures lie within you?

They are there for a reason… To impact people around you so that they too can become “Treasure – Carriers”.

There is no need to be scared of competition because you are unique still.

… And you have your own space.

The Yoruba adage, “the skies are wide enough for all birds to fly come to mind at this point.

Yes, there is a place for you and every other person on this planet.

Help them fly!

… It won’t stop you from flying too.

You can actually put the information the people who need what you have inside you in written form. Writing is an excellent way to preserve information.

I will be pouring out myself as a writer/author participants of the INSPIRE MY WORLD WRITING COURSE /BOOT CAMP.

You should take this course if you have ever thought about writing a book, love to write and be writing but you are stuck; you are held down by fear, procrastination or lack of inspiration; you desire to become an author and get your book published soon enough.

MAXIMISING TIME

Two men I met during my late teenage years left an indelible mark on my life. Both men were Pastors in the Nigerian Baptist Convention ( Revd Tayo Orodiji and Revd Goke Adeleke). These two men were sold out to God. They were really passionate about ministering to youths and they were all over the place recovering souls to the Kingdom of God.

The ZEAL of these men was contagious. They lived their lives like their time was almost up… As if they knew they didn’t have much time on their hands. Hmmmm

Both men died on the same day in a ghastly motor accident over twelve years ago.

Revd Orodiji in particular wrote several books that are still very relevant in the youth ministry today; permit me to say even more relevant now than then. He wrote a lot about relationships and issues pertaining to sexual purity.

Their works live on long after they have gone away from here.

I have been challenged too much in life to live my life without caution. This is one major reason I just keep doing things that I am called to do with all zeal. Yes, I keep dishing them out as they come because I know time COULD be short after all and I am not ready to take chances.

I made a resolution a long time ago, that keeps me pursuing purpose with every sense of determination… I must die empty.

Are you still nonchalant about your life and the fulfilment of your purpose?

Has God inspired you to do something and you have been procrastinating?

I am calling out to you today.

If you miss out on the opportunity to live life to the fullest today, you will never get another ‘today’ when you decide to wake up from your slumber (and that’s if it’s not too late by then).

This is not to scare you with the issue of death… Not at all.

This is simply a reminder that you do not know if you will be here on this side of eternity ‘tomorrow’.

Today is the surest opportunity you can lay claim of.

Maximise TODAY …

Take action towards fulfillment of purpose.

… So that you can hear your Creator say to you, “Well done, good and faithful servant; enter into your Master’s rest”

Please, How Do You Do It?

There is something I need your help explaining to me… This is an issue that I have always wondered about. I have had several reasons to wonder how two things that seem to be incompatible can be exhibited in the very same space.

A Nollywood movie I watched a few days ago actually brought this issue back to mind and I knew it was time I spoke about my worries thus the conception of this post.

In that movie, there was this guy who deprived his wife of sex for about 3 months or more after the wedding. I mean from day one… No honeymoon things.

His commonest excuse was that they needed to pray. It was either that he just had a nightmare when the wife makes advances at him or that he was observing lent in August. Even on their wedding night, it was prayer that they prayed till they both slept off and I was like, “Are you kidding me?”

The wife kept suffering in silence. She was deeply frustrated.

To cut the long story short, he kept using the issue of prayer to camouflage his obvious purpose of punishing his wife.

Now, this was the real issue which he refused to reveal until after the lady attempted suicide:

The wife had stolen money from the husband’s late brother (whom she worked with as a secretary) which she gave this same man to travel out of the country with. It was during the period when they were out of the country that the elder brother died from a stroke linked to the money which was stolen from him; when he couldn’t resuscitate his business or make ends meet.

He had later sponsored the lady to join him overseas and returned to the country together for their wedding. Upon their return, the man took his fiancee to meet his sister-in-law and that was when he got to know about what had transpired between his wife-to-be and elder brother.

So, instead of confronting the lady or calling off the wedding he went ahead to marry her with the intention of punishing her.

Did I mention that while the wife from suffering from deprivation, this man had a side-chic that was performing his wife’s conjugal duties?

What am I driving at with my narration?

I have seen people who profess to be believers and sometimes can pray like fire would descend right there in their prayer rooms act terribly towards people around them.

I have seen pastors who are skilled in dividing the Word of truth beat their wives blue-black upon every slight provocation.

I have seen tongue-talking, fire spitting believers rob their bosses or involved in fraudulent activities at their places of work.

And all I can ask within myself is, “How do they do it?”

How do you harbour sin yet are able to pray?

How do you keep malice and are still able to raise ‘holy hands’ to the Lord?

How are you able to steal money and yet bring the tithe to church?

How do you abuse your spouse physically or emotionally and still be able to stand before the congregation of the righteous with your hypocritical smiles?

How do you call yourself a child of God and still act like that of the devil?

How can light and darkness live in the same vessel at the same time?

…Because the Holy Spirit I know will always call you out when you are out of line.

Something must definitely be wrong somewhere then, I conclude…

Either you are not born again in the first instance or you have decided to continually ignore the voice of the Holy Spirit to you.

This is a call to you reading this to examine your ways.

Check where you have fallen from and make amends. Allow yourself to be thoroughly broken down, have a circumcised heart which is sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and decide to begin to obey Him always.

May your eyes be opened to those areas of your life that are not conforming to the standards of the Word of God.

And may grace be multiplied unto you as you decide to repent of your ungodly ways!
