A Short Note To the In-law

mother-in-law

Dear mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, . . .
Before you go attack that daughter-in-law (or sister-in-law) of yours or send her packing from her matrimonial home because she’s not been able to give birth to a child with your son after years of marriage, try to imagine if you were the one in her shoes. It is imperative that you are considerate.

Remember that no human being can make a baby. Only God does that. That woman is not in a position to make herself a baby neither are you. You are not God. Neither is she!

Remember Jacob and Rachel?

When Rachel saw that she wasn’t having any children for Jacob, she became jealous of her sister. She pleaded with Jacob, “Give me children, or I’ll die!” Then Jacob became furious with Rachel. “Am I God?” he asked. “He’s the one who has kept you from having children!” (Gen. 30:1-2)

Stop torturing that woman for God’s sake. I’m almost certain that she’s already going through a whole lot of stress all by herself. Stop adding salt to her injury.

You should be a source of joy not sorrow.

And maybe you have forgotten that the Bible says: “What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Stop suggesting that your son or brother get himself another wife or enter into adultery. That way you have become a part of another’s sin. You will be judged for leading someone into sin.

Jesus has this to say to those who cause others to fall :

But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in and acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin [that is, who entices him or hinders him in right conduct or thought], it would be better (more expedient and profitable or advantageous) for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be sunk in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world for such temptations to sin and influences to do wrong! It is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the person on whose account or by whom the temptation comes! (Matthew 18:6-7 AMP)

There is something you can do for them, PRAY! God will give them a child in His own time. Encourage them to keep trusting God. God will bless you for that.

I pray for all waiting parents that the Lord will open His book of remembrance unto their homes and bless them with children of their own in Jesus’ name.

Shalom!
